Problem: Heating Unit Isn’t Warming the Home
  • Ensure that the thermostat is set to the desired temperature.
Problem: Unit Isn’t Blowing Hot Air
  • Ensure that the thermostat is set to the desired temperature.
  • Make sure the breaker is on; a fuse may be blown.
  • If the unit runs on natural gas, make sure the valve is open.
  • Check to make sure the pilot light is lit.
Problem: Gas Furnace Turns On and Off Repeatedly
  • Check the air filter; it may need to be cleaned or replaced.
  • Use lightweight oil to lubricate the blower motor lubrications ports—usually at the ends of the shaft. Note: some motors do not require lubrication.
  • Check the tension in the belt—it may just need tightening.
  • Check the condition in the belt—torn belts should be replaced.
Problem: Furnace Blower Runs Continually
  • Check the thermostat—it may be set to run the fan continuously.
  • Check the fan control switch—it may need replacing or resetting.
Problem: Furnace is Extremely Noisy
  • Is the noise a low-pitched squeal? The gas burners may need to be cleaned, or adjust the pilot light may be necessary.
  • Is the noise a high-pitched squeal? The belt to the blower might be slipping, or the motor/shaft bearings may need oil.
